Spry Creek is owned by Outer Banks native Karen Scarborough Whitfield and her husband, John. They have converted her father’s old auto repair shop into a surprising gift and home accents shop. The old bay doors and shop flooring remain the same, and be sure to look for Karen’s father’s workbench, which came out of Penny’s Hill Lifesaving Station. In the shop you will find the artwork of local artists, genuine sea glass jewelry, shipwreck jewelry made from the metal that once covered the bottom of ships wrecked off our coast, handmade soaps and candles, pottery by Cape Fear Pottery, Dragon Moon and local artist Shore Fire. The shop also offers imported table linens, silk and cashmere shawls, Polish art glass and handcrafted ceramics from Spain, Turkey and Mexico, customizable house numbers crafted in Spain, French market baskets. African grain baskets, Peguea Valley Forge kitchen tools hand-forged in the USA, American-made jewelry by On U, Holly Yashi, Ava Austin, Adajio and Mark Steel — and the list goes on. Spry Creek is named after a deepwater creek just north of the shop where local fishermen and hunters kept their boats and a local crabber still does.
