Corolla Shopping

Corolla is all about retail recreation. Corolla shopping opportunities are abundant in and around the major shopping complexes—The Shoppes at the Currituck Club, TimBuck II, Monteray Plaza and Corolla Light Town Center—and in the old Corolla village area.

Almost all Corolla shops are locally owned and operated, so they each have an individual character and offer things you won’t see at home. You could easily spend a whole day shopping in Corolla when you need a little break from the beach. Just remember that on rainy days, everyone else will want to be shopping with you. Vacationers are notorious for getting in their cars on rainy days and heading straight to the Outer Banks shopping areas.

If you’ve got family members in tow, don’t worry, because most of Corolla’s shopping centers offer diversions other than shopping. TimBuck II Shopping Village has plenty of recreational opportunities, like water sports and go-carts, to keep the family entertained while you shop. At Monteray Shores Shopping Plaza, there’s a climbing wall and movie theater. Corolla Light Town Center features a skatepark that’s as much fun for curious onlookers as it is for skaters.

This gallery is a good place to browse for functional handmade pottery intended for daily use or a quality hand-crafted gift (including unique jewelry) for a very affordable price. The Outer Banks photography of Dan Waters is a popular seller here. Alice’s Craft Gallery is open April through December.

They rent single-speed beach cruisers, kids’ and BMX bikes, Kiddie Kart trailers and trikes for the little ones, plus you can get helmets and gear for the entire family. Pick up your bikes here or have them delivered to your door.

And if that’s not enough, Ocean Atlantic Rentals also has all the equipment you need for surfing, bodyboarding or skimboarding. They even have swim fins, which are great for bodyboarding. If the water is chilly when you’re here, they rent wetsuits to keep you warm while you tackle the waves. Ocean Atlantic Rentals delivers this type of gear too!

Spry Creek Home Accents

1122 Corolla Village Road
Corolla
(252) 453-0199

Spry Creek is owned by Outer Banks native Karen Scarborough Whitfield and her husband, John. They have converted her father’s old auto workshop garage into a surprising home accents and gifts shop. The old bay doors and shop flooring were kept the same for charm. Be sure to look for Karen’s father’s workbench, which came out of Penny’s Hill Life-saving Station. In the shop, emphasis is placed on unique, handcrafted, quality wares.  Locally made jewelry, artwork, candles, soaps, photography and even carved decoys. They offer domestic and imported linens, shawls, handcrafted ceramics from the U.S.A., Spain, Poland, Portugal and Mexico as well as Polish art glass. They also offer toys, glassware and handwoven throws made in the U.S.A. Spry Creek is named after a deep water creek just north of the shop where local fishermen used to keep their boats and a few local crabbers still do.
